Telstra agreement signals the end of PSTN landlines.

Telstra has signed an agreement with the Australian government that will lead to its copper cable plant being closed down and all of its customers handed over to the National Broadband Network. Telstra will transfer customers from its copper and hybrid fibre cable networks to the new IP based network and the telephone landlines that we've known and trusted for decades will be gone for good. This has some serious implications for monitored security alarm systems that rely upon landlines to transmit their messages to an Alarm Monitoring Centre.
