What is IPtoPOTS ?
IP stands for Internet Protocol and POTS is short for Plain Old Telephone System. IPtoPOTS is the name of a service that IP Alarms have developed for Australian consumers who have back to base alarm monitoring service, want to disconnect their telephone landline and want to stay with their existing monitoring provider.
How does the IPtoPOTS solution work ?
The solution works in such a way that fifty percent of an alarm call goes over IP (your Internet connection) and fifty percent goes over a landline (between our telco partner and the monitoring company). When our custom alarm monitoring settings are downloaded into any "off the shelf" Linksys VoIP equipment, they enable the device to act as an IP alarm transmitter that has full control of the IP network environment between your alarm panel and our telco partner. The Linksys device does not use your VoIP service at all. It makes a call to our telco partner over the Internet and they transfer the call onto the PSTN(POTS) landline phone network where it is connected to the alarm receiver at your existing alarm monitoring company. This type of setup irons out all the problems that prevent alarms from working reliably over a VoIP network.

How much does it cost ?
You can purchase the Linksys VoIP hardware (PAP2T or SPA3102) from your favourite local or online supplier and pay us a one-off provisioning fee of $29. The ongoing cost for service is $4.95 per month plus any call costs.
You would be required to pay an initial credit of $10 to cover the cost of any calls from your panel to the Monitoring Centre. How long this credit lasts will depend largely on whether or not your panel calls a local number or a 1300 number.
We saved the best bit until last. Your Monitoring Company will not notice any changes and will be none the wiser!
